Announced today, Apple will be eliminating all products in Apple store shelves or online that include or act as protectors for the iPhone and iPod touch.
Screen protectors for Apple products have become the most popular accessory for any i-Product. They are the best-selling product in Apple stores that aren't manufactured by Apple. From a business perspective, it seems like a poor decision on Apple's part. Now, while it may provide more money to the protector's manufacturers, it will decrease a large share of money coming in to Apple's overall revenue.
Now, Steve Jobs has told us, himself, that Apple's products are meant to be used bare, as they are manufactured. I, myself, am unsure as to why he believes that, although it may have been stated (if it has, please let me know what was said). Maybe it gives the consumer a chance to advertise Apple's products? Even so, Apple has still continually sold cases and screen protectors in their stores. Why they would remove this lineup of products is beyond me. Now, it may not be beyond some of you, so please leave a comment to help me out with this...
What has been speculated is that Apple might make more money replacing these products when people break the screens or damage their phones. This is because Apple's standard warranty/AppleCare doesn't cover replacing such damage like this.
Please leave a comment with your thoughts and opinions, and all I can say is be careful with your iPhones!
